Baseball Recap: Walnut Hills Eagles vs. West Clermont Wolves
Walnut Hills dropped their record down to 3-5 on Tuesday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins at home. They lost 9-2 to the West Clermont Wolves. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Wolves this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-3 last Saturday.
Walnut Hills saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was J.T. Thornton, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run. Andrew Gorenflo also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
As for West Clermont, the victory got them back to even at 5-5. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three contests by seven runs or more this season.
On West Clermont's side, Gavin Speranza was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching four innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits. Speranza also tossed no walks, which is notable because West Clermont is 2-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 3-4 otherwise. Speranza was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.
Walnut Hills and West Clermont could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Ohio Rankings. The Eagles will challenge Loveland at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday with a big rank disadvantage (311 vs. 37). Meanwhile, West Clermont (ranked 122nd) will meet Lebanon (ranked 26th) at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
