Basketball Recap: Penncrest Falls Short of Neumann-Goretti in the Playoffs

Penncrest and Neumann-Goretti squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but Penncrest had to settle for second. They fell 76-69 to the Saints. While losing is never fun, the Lions can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 42nd, while the Saints are ranked eighth).

DeShawn Yates was his usual excellent self, going 9-for-14 on his way to 34 points along with five assists and five steals for Neumann-Goretti. Those 34 points gave Yates a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Alassan N'Diaye, who shot 45% from the field en route to 13 points and seven rebounds.

With the defeat, Penncrest broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 24-5. As for Neumann-Goretti, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 17-11.

Penncrest does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Neumann-Goretti, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 79-53 victory against Upper Moreland on the 21st.
