Vanguard Classical East had to start their season on the road on Monday, and it wasn't the start they were hoping for. The game between the Hawks and the Denver Jewish Day Tigers didn't end well, with the Hawks falling 76-60.

Despite the defeat, Vanguard Classical East saw an underclassman step up: freshman James Coleman shot 57% from the field en route to 34 points. Another player making a difference was DeKimbae High, who posted 14 points.

Denver Jewish Day got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Solly Bielsky out in front who almost dropped a double-double with 27 points and nine boards.
