Basketball Recap: Vanguard Classical East Falls to Denver Jewish Day in First Game of Season + How To Watch

Vanguard Classical East had to start their season on the road on Monday, and it wasn't the start they were hoping for. The game between the Hawks and the Denver Jewish Day Tigers didn't end well, with the Hawks falling 76-60.

Despite the defeat, Vanguard Classical East saw an underclassman step up: freshman James Coleman shot 57% from the field en route to 34 points. Another player making a difference was DeKimbae High, who posted 14 points.

Denver Jewish Day got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Solly Bielsky out in front who almost dropped a double-double with 27 points and nine boards. Bielsky is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 25 or more in each of the last four games he's played dating back to last season. The team also got some help courtesy of Ronen Trujillo, who went 9-for-15 to rack up 22 points and six steals.

Vanguard Classical East wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, an 81-17 win against Beth Eden Baptist on the 2nd. As for Denver Jewish Day, they will challenge University at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday.
