Softball Recap: La Porte Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

La Porte waltzed into their matchup on Wednesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Merrillville Pirates a 13-0 shutout. That's more bragging rights for the Slicers, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Addy Bennitt made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Shayla Sorg, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Evie Travis was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2.

La Porte hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least three batters in five consecutive games.

La Porte now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Merrillville, they are on a 13-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-8.

Coming up, La Porte will challenge New Prairie at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Merrillville, they will square off against Hammond Central at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
