Softball Recap: Orosi's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Avenal, Orosi was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They walked away with an 11-7 win over the Summit Charter Collegiate Academy Bears. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Miah Lopez was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and six unearned) runs off eight hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with three stolen bases and two runs.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Nicole Melchor, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. Victoria Nieto was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

Orosi moved to 7-15-1 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for Summit Charter Collegiate Academy, their defeat was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-9.

Coming up, Orosi will head out to challenge Delano at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Summit Charter Collegiate Academy, they will square off against Orange Cove at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bears' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Titans have averaged an impressive 7.5 runs per game this season.
