The Martin County Gators will take on the North East Carolina Prep Husky at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
North East Carolina Prep will be up against a hot Martin County team: the squad just extended their winning streak to eight. Martin County put the hurt on Gates County with a sharp 18-1 victory on Friday. That looming 18-1 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Gators yet this season.
Erica Sturgill made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2024.

In other batting news, Martin County got a massive performance out of Ty'Hiera Wooten, who went 4-for-5 with three stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave Wooten a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Riley Cowan, who scored three runs and stole three bases while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.
Martin County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .690. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for North East Carolina Prep, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. Everything went their way against Southside on Monday as North East Carolina Prep made off with a 7-1 win. The victory was some much needed relief for the Husky as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
Savannah Babb spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on two hits and racked up seven Ks.
On the hitting side, North East Carolina Prep saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Katelyn Knox, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
Martin County's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-0. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for North East Carolina Prep, their win bumped their record up to 3-4.
North East Carolina Prep's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Martin County hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .438. It's a different story for North East Carolina Prep, though, as they've only averaged .235. Will they be able to contain Martin County's hitters?
