Football Recap: Yanelle Gil Leads Calexico's Defense on Wednesday

Calexico won the last time they faced Central and things went their way on Wednesday too. The Bulldogs walked away with a 20-12 victory over the Spartans. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Bulldogs' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 109th, while the Spartans are ranked 492nd).

Calexico didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Yanelle Gil, Anabel Gonzalez, and Melany Valdes picked up one apiece.

Calexico's win bumped their record up to 9-2. As for Central, their defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 3-10.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Calexico is set to challenge their familiar foe Brawley at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few points on average (the Bulldogs 12.6, the Wildcats 11.2) so any points scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Central will face off against rival Imperial at 7:30 p.m. on Monday.
