Softball Recap: Dirigo Extends Winning Streak to Five

Dirigo came out on top against Gray-New Gloucester on Saturday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run third inning. The Cougars were the clear victors by a 7-1 margin over the Patriots. The result was nothing new for the Cougars, who have now won three games by six runs or more so far this season.

Leah Turnbull made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing seven innings while giving up just one earned run off nine hits. Turnbull was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run. Those stolen bases were her first of the season.

In other batting news, Madisyn Bradeen was incredible, going 3-for-5 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one double. That double was her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Lana Waite, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

The win keeps Dirigo at an undefeated 5-0. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.4 runs on average this season. As for Gray-New Gloucester, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-5.

Looking ahead, Dirigo is taking a road trip to face off against Cony at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Gray-New Gloucester, they will be playing at home against Telstar at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Rebels will aim to continue their four-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last.
