Baseball Game Preview: Seven Lakes Spartans vs. Morton Ranch Mavericks

For the second straight game, Seven Lakes will face off against Morton Ranch. The Spartans will square off against the Mavericks at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Seven Lakes has three straight wins, Morton Ranch has four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Seven Lakes proved they can win big on Thursday (they won by 12) and on Monday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out Morton Ranch 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Spartans have posted since March 6th.

Nathan Johnson made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one triple and one RBI.

In other pitching news, James Levin looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances.

Johnson wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Owen Wade, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.

Seven Lakes' win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 19-10. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Morton Ranch, their loss dropped their record down to 6-22.
