Basketball Recap: Mater Dei Piles Up the Points Against El Camino

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Mater Dei). They breezed past the El Camino Wildcats to the tune of 79-36 on Monday. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Monarchs' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 251st, while the Wildcats are ranked 839th).

Mater Dei's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Richie Ramirez, who posted 25 points and six steals. With that strong performance, Ramirez is now averaging an impressive 2.3 steals per game. Another player making a difference was Luke Barnett, who had 22 points.

Several Wildcats players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jordan Cajala, who scored 12 points.

The victory was the third in a row for Mater Dei, bringing their record up to 3-3. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 73.7 points over those games. As for El Camino, their loss dropped their record down to 2-5.

Mater Dei wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 90-70 victory against Jurupa Hills on the 10th. As for El Camino, they have also already played their next game, a 60-38 defeat against San Juan Hills on the 10th.
