Softball Preview: Layton Lancers vs. Summit Academy Bears
The Layton Lancers will square off against the Summit Academy Bears at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Summit Academy took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Layton, who comes in off a win.
Layton is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They walked away with a 14-10 win over Weber on Thursday.

Lexie Himle was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over seven innings while giving up five earned (and four unearned) runs off ten hits. Himle was also stellar in the batter's box, going 4-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Serenity Overton, who went 2-for-5 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March of 2024. Macie Clark was another key player, going 1-for-5 with two runs and one RBI.
Layton kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.2 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 games they've averaged 9.4.
Meanwhile, Summit Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They came up short against Juan Diego Catholic, falling 24-1.
Layton's victory ended a six-game drought at home and bumped them up to 2-14. As for Summit Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 1-13.
