El Capitan hasn't had much luck against Granite Hills recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Vaqueros will be playing in front of their home fans against the Eagles at 4:00 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
El Capitan proved they can win big on Wednesday (they won by nine) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Valhalla, sneaking past 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Vaqueros have posted against the Norsemen since April 14, 2023.

Seth Walker was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base. He has become a key player for El Capitan: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 6-11 otherwise. Another player making a difference was David Vera, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI.
Meanwhile, Granite Hills put another one in the bag on Tuesday to keep their undefeated season alive. Everything went their way against Helix as they made off with a 9-1 victory. Considering the Eagles have won ten contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Brenden Lewis made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
In other pitching news, Jacob Kruse looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Tommy Entrekin, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI, one triple, and one run. Parker Vance was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one RBI.
Granite Hills' win was their 17th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 17-0-2. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.1 runs on average over those games. As for El Capitan, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 9-12.
El Capitan might still be hurting after the 8-2 defeat they got from Granite Hills in their previous meeting back in April. Will the Vaqueros have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more baseball content.
