Eisenhower is 2-8 against Union City since April of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Knights will head out to take on the Bears at 4:00 p.m.
Eisenhower made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Northwestern, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Knights fell just short of the Wildcats by a score of 10-8 on Thursday. The Knights' loss continues a trend for the team, making it three in a row.
Meanwhile, Union City had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Thursday. They blew past the Bobcats 11-4. With that victory, the Bears brought their scoring average up to 6.7 runs per game.
Aiden Shuman made a splash no matter where he played. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Shuman was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Union City's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 1-2 when he doesn't).
In other pitching news, Luke Racop tossed a big game, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Cooper Fox was incredible, going 3-for-5 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. Those RBI marked the first that he has brought in this season. Steven Klakamp was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Union City kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Seneca only managed eight hits.
Union City's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 4-2. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Eisenhower, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-6.
Eisenhower couldn't quite get it done against Union City in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 as they fell 7-2. Can the Knights avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
