Gregory-Portland hasn't had much luck against Carroll recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. A feisty cat fight will be fought as Gregory-Portland Wildcats take on Carroll Tigers at 12:00 p.m. Gregory-Portland is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.4 runs per game this season.
Gregory-Portland's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Corpus Christi Moody as Gregory-Portland made off with a 10-0 win. The victory continues a trend for the Wildcats in their matchups with the Trojans: they've now won eight in a row.
Audrey Diercks was a major factor no matter where she played. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 12 over six innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March of 2024. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Elizabeth Keith, who scored a run while going 2-for-4. Alyssa Castro was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.
Gregory-Portland was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .452. They are a perfect 11-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Carroll came tearing into Tuesday's contest with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 5-2 win over the Hornets.
Carroll let Graciela Recio and Talina Valdez run wild. Recio went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double, while Valdez scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaeleigh Mendez, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
Gregory-Portland's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-7. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Carroll, their record now sits at 19-2.
Both Gregory-Portland and Carroll just can't seem to miss. Gregory-Portland has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.6 hits per game. However, it's not like Carroll struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.5 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Gregory-Portland couldn't quite finish off Carroll when the teams last played back in February and fell 3-1. Can Gregory-Portland avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
