Softball Recap: Fort Chiswell Drops Highest Score of Season Against Galax

After low-scoring totals in their previous three contests, Fort Chiswell brought some dynamite into their most recent matchup. Everything went their way against the Galax Maroon Tide on Tuesday as they made off with a 15-3 win. The Pioneers' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Blair Jackson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 18 over seven innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April of 2024. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-5. That stolen base was her first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Krista King, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Lilly Goforth also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Fort Chiswell's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-3. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Galax, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-4 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Fort Chiswell will welcome Rural Retreat at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Galax, they will be playing at home against Bland County at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Bears have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 16.17 runs per game on average), something the Maroon Tide will no doubt try to take advantage of.
