Volleyball Recap: Luther Prep Takes a Loss

After flying high against Catholic Central on Thursday, Luther Prep came back down to earth. The Phoenix fell just short of the Waterloo Pirates by a score of 2-1 on Saturday. The defeat continues a trend for the Phoenix in their meetings with the Pirates: they've now lost three in a row.

In an exciting match in which no team claimed back-to-back wins, Luther Prep sadly wound up on the wrong side. The match finished with set scores of 25-21, 20-25, 15-12.

Lorelei Candler paced Luther Prep's offense, picking up nine kills. Candler got some help from Lydia Vasold and her 11 assists. Candler was also solid from the service line: she led the team with four aces.

Luther Prep's loss dropped their record down to 11-2. As for Waterloo, their win ended a six-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 5-3.

Coincidentally, Luther Prep and Waterloo will both be playing Lake Mills the next time they take the court. The Pirates will head out to face the L-Cats at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, while the Phoenix will play them later in the day, at 11:00 a.m.
