Baseball Recap: Evansville Central's Win on Saturday Extends Winning Streak to Three

Heritage Hills typically has all the answers at home, but on Saturday Evansville Central proved too difficult a challenge. They blew past the Patriots 11-1. The Bears not only won on Saturday, but they posted their biggest win since April 17th (when they won 13-0).

Hunter Broshears made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. He is becoming a predictor of Evansville Central's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 3-1 (and 3-15 when he doesn't). Broshears was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Devon DeJarnette, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. He has become a key player for Evansville Central: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 3-15 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Ayden Owen, who went 2-for-3 with one double.

Evansville Central was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .438. The last time their batting average was this high was back in March of 2024.

The victory was the third in a row for Evansville Central, bringing their record up to 6-16. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.7 runs over those games. As for Heritage Hills, their loss dropped their record down to 17-6.

Looking ahead, Evansville Central will face off against Castle at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Heritage Hills, they will square off against Floyd Central at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The last three games the Highlanders have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
