Preview: Wayne County War Eagles vs. Greene County Wildcats
The Wayne County War Eagles will head out on the road to face off against the Greene County Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Wayne County is not getting complacent, as they presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Greene County in Mississippi (Wayne County is ranked 110th, while Greene County is ranked 224th).
The third road game was the charm for Wayne County, as they earned their first road win of the season. They breezed by North Pike on the road to the tune of 65-32.
Meanwhile, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Greene County beat Gautier 47-43 on Tuesday.
Greene County found their leader in underclassman Jase Matthews, who scored 15 points along with 9 rebounds and 7 steals. Matthews continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Yabarrai Bolton, who scored 8 points along with 7 rebounds.
Wayne County's victory bumped their season record to 3-2 while North Pike's defeat dropped theirs to 3-4.
Wayne County was able to grind out a solid victory over Greene County when the teams last played two weeks ago, winning 55-43. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Greene County's Bolton, who scored 21 points.
