Cottondale proved they can win big last Tuesday (they won by three) and on Monday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past the Altha Wildcats 3-2. That's more bragging rights for the Hornets, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Cottondale wouldn't go down easily and took Altha into a fifth set where they got it done with a 12-point win. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-16, 25-20, 19-25, 12-25, 15-3.

Anslee Kelly paced Cottondale's offense, picking up 19 kills. Kelly got some help from Anna Claire Speers and her 30 assists. Speers was also solid from the service line: she led the team with four aces.

Cottondale now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Altha, they are on a six-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-2.

Coincidentally, Cottondale and Altha will both be playing Holmes County the next time they take the court. The Hornets will head out to face the Blue Devils at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while the Wildcats will host them at 6:00 p.m. on September 4.
