Recap: Collins Tigers vs. St. Helena College and Career Academy Hawks

The Collins Tigers entered their tilt with the St. Helena College and Career Academy Hawks with seven consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with eight. Collins walked away with a 74-66 victory over St. Helena College and Career Academy on Saturday. Given Collins' advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 94th in Mississippi, while St. Helena College and Career Academy is ranked 249th in Louisiana), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Collins' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jaylen Willingham led the charge by scoring 27 points along with three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Willingham has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Logan White, who scored 15 points along with nine steals.

Collins pushed their record up to 13-4 with that victory, which was their eighth straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.6 points per game. As for St. Helena College and Career Academy, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-10.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Collins will challenge Richton at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Richton focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 last Thursday. As for St. Helena College and Career Academy, they will head out on the road to take on French Settlement at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. French Settlement knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past four matchups -- so hopefully St. Helena College and Career Academy likes a good challenge.
