Softball Recap: St. John XXIII Drops Highest Score of Season Against Incarnate Word Academy

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask St. John XXIII). They put the hurt on the Incarnate Word Academy Falcons with a sharp 14-0 win on Tuesday. For the Lions, this counts as revenge for the 15-5 victory the Falcons walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February of 2023.

Camila Melendez was a standout: she scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Jaelynn Talasek, who scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

St. John XXIII now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Incarnate Word Academy, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-8-1 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. St. John XXIII will take on rival St. Agnes Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Incarnate Word Academy is set to face off against their familiar foe Concordia Lutheran at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
