Preview: Lyman Memorial Bulldogs vs. Putnam Clippers
The Lyman Memorial Bulldogs will head out on the road to face off against the Putnam Clippers at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Lyman Memorial will be strutting in after a win while Putnam will be coming in after a loss.
Lyman Memorial put the finishing touches on their eighth blowout victory of the season on Wednesday. They blew past Westbrook 49-26. The victory was just what Lyman Memorial needed coming off of a 71-36 defeat in their prior match.
Lyman Memorial can attribute much of their success to Jenny Lopez, who almost dropped a triple-double on nine points, ten rebounds, and ten assists, and Makayla Piaseczny, who scored 20 points along with two steals and two blocks. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Piaseczny has scored all season. Phoebe Carpenter was another key contributor, scoring six points along with ten rebounds and three steals.
Meanwhile, Putnam's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their 12th straight defeat. They lost to Tourtellotte on the road by a decisive 37-18 margin. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Putnam has scored all season.
Lyman Memorial is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season. As for Putnam, they dropped their record down to 2-15 with that loss, which was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season.
Everything went Lyman Memorial's way against Putnam in their previous meeting back in January as Lyman Memorial made off with a 58-35 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Lyman Memorial since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
