Baseball Game Preview: Plattsmouth Blue Devils vs. Malcolm Clippers

The Plattsmouth Blue Devils are taking a road trip to take on the Malcolm Clippers at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.

Plattsmouth managed to slip by Ralston the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Blue Devils lost 11-1 to the Rams on Tuesday. The Blue Devils' defeat signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.

Meanwhile, Malcolm faced Wahoo/Bishop Neumann in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Clippers came out on top against the Warriors by a score of 4-1. The victory continues a trend for the Clippers in their matchups with the Warriors: they've now won six in a row.

Chase Smith was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits (and only one walk). He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one double.

In other batting news, Brixon Meyer was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Plattsmouth's loss dropped their record down to 7-6. As for Malcolm, their record is now 10-4.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Plattsmouth has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Malcolm struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.

Plattsmouth came up short against Malcolm when the teams last played back in April of 2025, falling 8-3. Can the Blue Devils avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
