Softball Recap: McCutcheon Mavericks vs. Westfield Shamrocks        
        
		
            
 After flying high against Lafayette Jefferson  last Thursday, McCutcheon came back down to earth. The McCutcheon Mavericks fell just short of the Westfield Shamrocks by a score of  8-6 on Friday. The  loss   continues a  trend for McCutcheon in their matchups with Westfield: they've now lost three in a row.
  Kaidynn Peckinpaugh put in work while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound,   not allowing a single  earned run and  only two  hits while striking out 13 over six innings pitched. Peckinpaugh has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't  tossed less than eight  strikeouts in six consecutive pitching appearances. Peckinpaugh was also big at the plate,  going 2-for-4 with a  home run and a  double.
 In other batting news,  Jacquelin All and  Mackenzie Taylor did some serious damage despite the final result:  All  went 4-for-4 with a  home run, two  doubles,  and two  RBI, while  Taylor  went 3-for-4 with four  RBI, two  doubles,  and a  stolen base. Another player making a difference was  Hayle Peterson, who  scored a  run and  stole a base while going 3-for-3.
 Even though they lost, McCutcheon was getting hits left and right  and  finished the game having  posted a batting average of .514. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Westfield only posted a  batting average of  .312.
 On Westfield's side,  Shea Vohs spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned  (and one unearned) runs on 12 hits.
 On the hitting side,  Makayla Watson was  incredible,  scoring two  runs and  stealing three bases while going 1-for-3.  Grace Fanelli was another key contributor,  going 2-for-4 with a  home run and two  RBI.
 McCutcheon's defeat dropped their record down to 14-10. As for Westfield,  the  win  got them back to even at 12-12.
 McCutcheon will face off against Harrison at 5:30  p.m.  on Tuesday. Harrison is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.9  runs per game  this season. As for Westfield, they are on the road again  on Monday to play Hamilton Southeastern at 7:30  p.m. The last four games Westfield has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
