Basketball Recap: Michael Witkin's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Colleton County over Stratford

Colleton County suffered their closest loss since February 9, 2024 on Friday. They fell just short of the Stratford Knights by a score of 52-50. The Cougars were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Knights earlier this season, when they won 61-58.

Colleton County's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Michael Witkin, who went 5 for 11 on his way to 12 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Da'Veon Varner, who posted 14 points.

Stratford's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Zanquel Baldwin led the charge by putting up 11 points in addition to eight assists and seven boards. That's the most assists Baldwin has posted since back in December of 2023. Another player making a difference was Derrick Peterson, who put up 11 points and six rebounds.

With the loss, Colleton County broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 5-7. As for Stratford, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 6-5 record this season.

Colleton County wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 39-37 defeat against May River on the 7th. As for Stratford, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 67-53 loss against Summerville on the 7th.
