Basketball Recap: Coalfield Takes a Loss

Coalfield and Oliver Springs squared off in some playoff action on Tuesday, but Coalfield had to settle for second. They fell 58-45 to the Oliver Springs Bobcats. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Bobcats this season, with their most recent loss being a 57-48 defeat last Tuesday.

Oliver Springs got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Zachary Hamby out in front who went 8-for-17 en route to 20 points and seven boards. That's the most rebounds Hamby has posted since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Gavin Johnson, who scored 13 points and three steals.

Coalfield has traveled a rocky road recently having lost nine of their last ten matches, which has put a noticeable dent in their 6-19 record this season. As for Oliver Springs, they have been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine games, which provided a massive bump to their 16-13 record this season.

Coalfield does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Oliver Springs, they will face off against Wartburg Central at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Oliver Springs is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.7 points per game this season.
