Softball Recap: Douglass Bulldogs vs. Medicine Lodge Indians

Douglass was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They took an 8-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Medicine Lodge Indians. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Douglass of the 11-2 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture on Thursday.

Hayleigh Waggoner was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She tossed six innings while giving up just one earned (and seven unearned) runs off six hits. Waggoner was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 2-for-4.

Waggoner wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Kennedy Bergsten, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and a double.

Like Douglass, Medicine Lodge also got a great game from a two-way player: Avalon Theis. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing seven innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. Theis was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, Teresa Collins was excellent, going 2-for-3 with a triple and two RBI.

Douglass' defeat dropped their record down to 7-11. As for Medicine Lodge, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 5-5 record this season.

Douglass will be staying on the road on Monday to face off against Halstead at 4:00 p.m. Halstead will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Douglass surely won't give up without a fight. As for Medicine Lodge, they will head out on the road to take on Bucklin at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Medicine Lodge is strutting in with some hitting muscle, as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.
