Softball Recap: Coahoma Picks Up 76th Consecutive Win

Coahoma put another one in the bag on Saturday to keep their perfect season alive. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Brownfield Cubs an 18-0 shutout. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Bulldogs also won the last time the pair played back in February of 2020.

Avery Rodriguez made a splash while hitting and pitching. She pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one RBI.

In other batting news, Coahoma got a massive performance out of Emery Doporto, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and one double. Those five RBI gave Doporto a new career-high. Mia Clemmer was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

Coahoma was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .833. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in five consecutive matchups.

Coahoma's win was their 25th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 15-0. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Brownfield, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-10.

Looking ahead, Coahoma will host Denver City at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Brownfield, they will head out on the road to square off against Lamesa at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Brownfield has given up an average of 8.6 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
