Softball Game Preview: Socorro Bulldogs vs. Franklin Cougars

Socorro has gone 9-1 against Franklin recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Bulldogs will look to defend their home field against the Cougars at 6:30 p.m. The timing is sure in Socorro's favor as the team sits on six straight wins at home while Franklin has been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road.

On Wednesday, Socorro needed a bit of extra time to put away Eastlake. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Falcons, sneaking past 4-2. The Bulldogs haven't had any issues with the Falcons recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.

Haley Rodriguez spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on four hits and racked up 18 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 19 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Victoria Perez, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Danielle Lozoya was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Franklin came up short against Eastwood on Wednesday, falling 26-15. That's two games in a row now that the Cougars have lost by exactly 11 runs.

Franklin got a massive performance out of Maria Lopez, who went 2-for-6 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Sophia Lucero, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.

Franklin's defeat dropped their record down to 8-18-1. As for Socorro, their victory bumped their record up to 25-1.

Socorro took their win against Franklin in their previous matchup back in March by a conclusive 13-0 score. Do the Bulldogs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cougars turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
