Softball Recap: Western Harnett Eagles vs. Harnett Central Trojans
After flying high against E.E. Smith last Monday, Western Harnett came back down to earth. The Western Harnett Eagles fell just short of the Harnett Central Trojans by a score of 8-7 on Tuesday. Western Harnett was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Harnett Central apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in March.
Grace Andersen put in work while hitting and pitching. She tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Andersen has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive pitching appearances. Andersen was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, Kaylee Yow was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Olivia Moomaw, who scored a run while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Like Western Harnett, Harnett Central also got a great game from a two-way player: Charleigh Jarriel. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over six innings pitched. Jarriel was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and a double.
