Softball Recap: Western Harnett Eagles vs. Harnett Central Trojans
After flying high against E.E. Smith last Monday, Western Harnett came back down to earth. The Western Harnett Eagles fell just short of the Harnett Central Trojans by a score of 8-7 on Tuesday. Western Harnett was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Harnett Central apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in March.
Grace Andersen put in work while hitting and pitching. She tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Andersen has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive pitching appearances. Andersen was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, Kaylee Yow was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Olivia Moomaw, who scored a run while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Like Western Harnett, Harnett Central also got a great game from a two-way player: Charleigh Jarriel. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over six innings pitched. Jarriel was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and a double.
Jarriel wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Lauren Faulkner, who scored a run while going 1-for-3. Bethany Gonsalez was another key contributor, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
Western Harnett's loss dropped their record down to 15-7. As for Harnett Central, they have been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-7 record this season.
Western Harnett does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Harnett Central, they will head out on the road to take on Triton at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Triton is coming into the match with four straight wins at home, so Harnett Central will have to stop a team with plenty of momentum.
