Basketball Recap: Oglethorpe County Patriots vs. Social Circle Redskins
The Oglethorpe County Patriots had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 16.8 points), and they went ahead and made it seven on Tuesday. They walked away with a 44-34 win over Social Circle. Given Oglethorpe County's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 154th, while the Redskins are ranked 396th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Social Circle's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Justin Russell, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds and two steals, and Ean Mulkey who scored four points along with eight rebounds and two blocks.
Oglethorpe County is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 12 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-6 record this season. As for Social Circle, their loss dropped their record down to 7-14.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Oglethorpe County will face off against the Wolverines at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Prince Avenue Christian is coming into the match on a four-game losing streak. As for Social Circle, they will head out on the road to take on the Hurricanes at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
