Baseball Recap: Mora Takes a Loss

Mora extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping them down to 6-13. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost an 11-10 heartbreaker at the hands of the Penasco Panthers. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Panthers this season, with their most recent defeat being a 3-2 loss two weeks ago.

Marcus Vigil made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 3-for-5 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. He has become a key player for Mora: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least three hits, but 3-12 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Diego Atencio, who went 3-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

As for Penasco, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 10-13. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.3 runs over those games.

On Penasco's side, Andrew Archuleta was excellent, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Those four hits gave Archuleta a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Alijah Vasquez, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double.

While Mora had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
