Liberty is 7-1 against Oak Hill since April of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Raiders are taking a road trip to face off against the Red Devils at 6:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
On Wednesday, Liberty got the win against WestSide by a conclusive 11-3. The result was nothing new for the Raiders, who have now won three matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Maddie Cox made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. Those hits marked the first that she allowed this season. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Alyssa Scarbro and Katie Mullens did most of the damage at the plate: Scarbro scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-5, while Mullens scored four runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. That's the most runs Mullens has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Emma Hartshorn, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
Liberty was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Oak Hill came tearing into Wednesday's contest with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 3.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Everything went their way against the Black Eagles as they made off with a 14-6 win. The Red Devils not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since March 19th.
Mary Butcher spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and three unearned) runs on seven hits.
On the hitting side, Oak Hill got a massive performance out of Meeka Miller, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Sadie Branch, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3.
Liberty is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a massive bump to their 4-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.6 runs over those games. As for Oak Hill, their record is now 6-3.
Everything went Liberty's way against Oak Hill when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Liberty made off with a 14-2 win. Do the Raiders have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Red Devils turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
