Basketball Game Preview: Miller Place Panthers vs. Southampton Mariners

Miller Place is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. In a tight match that could have gone either way, they made off with a 56-55 win over Sayville. The victory was some much needed relief for the Panthers as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak.

Meanwhile, Southampton came tearing into Tuesday's contest with 11 straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 40.9 points), and they left with even more momentum. They took their game with ease, bagging an 83-41 win over the Kingsmen. With the Mariners ahead 48-18 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.

Miller Place better keep an eye on Alex Franklin. He was instrumental in Southampton's win, dropping a double-double with 37 points and 12 rebounds. The contest was Franklin's tenth in a row with at least 16 points. Sae'Vion Ward was another key player, almost dropping a double-double with 14 points and nine assists.

Miller Place's victory bumped their record up to 3-4. As for Southampton, their win was their 21st straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 19-1.
