Baseball Recap: DeSoto Comes Up Short

DeSoto fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Perryville on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 9-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Pirates. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since April 16, 2025, but that streak is no more.

Connor Heister was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off nine hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with three RBI and one double.

Heister wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Nate Christopher, who went 1-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Khali Gordon also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

DeSoto now has a losing record of 8-9. As for Perryville, with the win, they broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 4-5.

While DeSoto had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
