Baseball Recap: Minerva Beats Sandy Valley for Their Fourth Straight Victory

Minerva came tearing into Saturday's game with three straight wins , and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Sandy Valley Cardinals, sneaking past 6-4. While the Lions didn't have the best season last year (they finished 3-19), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Brendon Huth looked comfortable as he tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits.

On the hitting side, Braydon Wood was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one double. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Brennan Barnes, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Minerva pushed their record up to 7-4 with the win, which was their third straight at home. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 1.67 runs across that stretch. As for Sandy Valley, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-8.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Minerva will host Marlington at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Dukes will aim to continue their four-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last. As for Sandy Valley, they will take on Claymont at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
