Recap: Cienega Bobcats vs. Cholla Chargers
If the Cienega Bobcats were feeling good off their 92-62 takedown of the Ironwood Ridge Nighthawks last Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Cienega took a 77-69 hit to the loss column at the hands of Cholla on Tuesday. Cienega was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Cholla apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2023.
Cienega's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jackson Moore, who scored 16 points along with five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Pascal Hussein, who scored 19 points.
Cyree Jenkins was his usual excellent self, scoring 30 points along with six rebounds and four steals for Cholla. Jenkins is absolutely dominating the point category: he's posted at least 15 every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jerry Mendoza, who scored 17 points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Cienega's loss dropped their record down to 11-6. As for Cholla, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season.
Cienega will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Tucson High Magnet School at 7:00 p.m. Tucson High Magnet School will be looking to extend their current 12-game winning streak. As for Cholla, Cholla and Rincon/University will face off at 7:00 p.m. on January 12th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Rincon/University is out to stop a three-game streak of losses at home.
