Preview: Panther Creek Catamounts vs. Holly Springs Golden Hawks
Panther Creek has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on the Holly Springs Golden Hawks at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Last Friday, Panther Creek strolled past Apex Friendship with points to spare, taking the game 68-52.
Panther Creek can attribute much of their success to Logan Ware, who scored 16 points along with eight rebounds and two blocks, and Cameron Hunter, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 11 rebounds. Hunter has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ja'tez Ward, who scored ten points.
Meanwhile, Holly Springs earned a 60-49 victory over Cary on Friday. Given Holly Springs' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 77th, while Cary is ranked 378th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Panther Creek pushed their record up to 11-4 with that win, which was their fifth straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 75.6 points per game. As for Holly Springs, their win bumped their record up to 12-3.
Things could have been worse for Panther Creek, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 83-64 loss to Holly Springs in their previous meeting back in February of 2023. Can Panther Creek avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
