Softball Recap: Discovery Canyon Victorious

After losing to Grand Junction Central the last time they met, Discovery Canyon decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Thunder skirted past the Warriors 9-8. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Thunder have posted since October 5, 2024.

Ryan McCann spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and six unearned) runs on three hits and racked up six Ks.

At the plate, Discovery Canyon got a massive performance out of Bella Holcomb, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Izzie Ackerman, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Discovery Canyon's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-3. As for Grand Junction Central, they are on a five-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-4.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Discovery Canyon will look to takes advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they takes on Elizabeth at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Cardinals' pitching crew has only allowed 2.6 runs per game this season, so the Thunder's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Grand Junction Central, they will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on Montrose at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday.
