Football Recap: Long Beach Poly Comes Up Short

Long Beach Poly was the 42-19 winner over Woodrow Wilson when they last played one another back in October of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Jackrabbits were just a hair shy of victory on Friday and fell 22-21 to the Bruins. The Jackrabbits gained 227 more yards on the day, but it was the Bruins that made the best use of them.

Elijah Dawson and Jayden Coley certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Dawson rushed for 90 yards and a pair of TDs, while Coley picked up 117 receiving yards. Coley has become a key player for Long Beach Poly: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least 80 receiving yards, but 2-3 otherwise.

Woodrow Wilson was led to victory by Thomas Jones and Jemel Grigsby. Jones picked up 93 receiving yards and one touchdown, while Grigsby rushed for 48 yards and one score. Jones got the majority of those receiving yards when he pulled down a pass and took off for a gain of 80 yards. Kyle Harris got in on the action as well, returning a kick for a touchdown.

Long Beach Poly's loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 4-4. As for Woodrow Wilson, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 7-1.

Long Beach Poly didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 72-0 win against Cabrillo on the 24th. As for Woodrow Wilson, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 49-12 victory against Jordan on the 24th.
