Softball Recap: Big Bear Beats Pacific for Their Third Straight Victory

Big Bear had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the nine-run drubbing they dealt Pacific on Thursday. The Big Bear Bears were the clear victor by a 16-7 margin over the Pacific Pirates. The victory was just business as usual for the Bears, who after three games remain undefeated this season.

Layla Navarette was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed four innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. Navarette was also big at the plate, going 1-for-5 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.

In other batting news, Jordan Gilligan and Annalise Marshall did most of the damage at the plate: Gilligan went 3-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and three RBI, while Marshall went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. What's more, Gilligan posted three hits, the most she's had since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Jorden Acosta, who scored two runs while going 1-for-1.

Big Bear's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 3-0. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.3 runs over those games. As for Pacific, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Big Bear will head out to challenge Rim of the World at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Pacific, they are taking a road trip to square off against Entrepreneur at 3:45 p.m. on March 6th.
