Basketball Game Preview: Apollo Eagles vs. Owensboro Catholic Aces

Apollo is 2-8 against Owensboro Catholic since March of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Apollo Eagles will square off against the Owensboro Catholic Aces at 5:30 p.m.

Apollo is headed into Friday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game last Friday. They had to suffer through a 76-35 loss at the hands of Campbellsville. Apollo was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 45-15.

Apollo's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Lashay Vera, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten boards, and Mattingly Taylor, who posted eight points and ten rebounds. Those eight points gave Taylor a new career-high.

Meanwhile, Owensboro Catholic had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 49.3 points) and they went ahead and made it four on Monday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Maroons 64-30. The Aces have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six games by 22 points or more this season.

Apollo's defeat dropped their record down to 1-9. As for Owensboro Catholic, their victory bumped their record up to 10-3.

Apollo was taken down by Owensboro Catholic 84-35 in their previous meeting back in February of 2024. Thankfully for Apollo, Hailee Johnson (who almost dropped a double-double on 15 points and nine steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
