Basketball Game Preview: Powdersville Patriots vs. Walhalla Razorbacks

The Powdersville Patriots will challenge the Walhalla Razorbacks at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a 17-game winning streak alive.

Powdersville is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. They blew past Woodruff 48-28. The Patriots have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 12 matches by 20 points or more this season.

Powdersville's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Makayla Assemian, who dropped a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. The dominant performance also gave Assemian a new career-high in steals (eight). Caroline Sweet was another key player, going 6-for-12 on her way to 16 points and three steals.

Meanwhile, Walhalla didn't have too much trouble with Southside Christian on Wednesday as they won 57-42. Given the Razorbacks' advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 32nd, while the Sabres are ranked 106th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Walhalla's win was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 24-3. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.5 points over those games. As for Powdersville, their record is now 20-7.

Powdersville came up short against Walhalla in their previous matchup back in December of 2017, falling 37-29. Can Powdersville avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
