Softball Recap: Payson Has No Trouble Against Emery

Payson won against Springville last Tuesday with 12 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Friday. The Payson Lions blew past the Emery Spartans 12-1. That 11 run margin sets a new team best for the Lions this season.

Peyton Staheli made a big impact no matter where she played. She pitched five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Staheli was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Paisley Beckstead, who scored two runs and stole Three bases. while going 3-for-3. Haven Jarvis also deserves some recognition as she scored her first run of the season.

Payson hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most four strikeouts every time they've taken the field this season.

Payson pushed their record up to 4-0 with the win, which was their third straight at home. As for Emery, they now have a losing record of 2-3.

Coming up, Payson will head out to take on Snow Canyon at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Payson knows how to get runs on the board -- the squad has finished with ten runs or more in their past four contests -- so hopefully Snow Canyon likes a good challenge. As for Emery, they are taking a road trip to challenge Mountain Ridge at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. Emery has given up an average of 7 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
