Baseball Recap: Holy Ghost Prep Takes a Loss

The Holy Ghost Prep Firebirds didn't have quite enough to beat the Gloucester Catholic Rams on Saturday and fell 3-2. The Firebirds have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Matt Riendeau was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over five innings pitched. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in May of 2025.

On the hitting side, Holy Ghost Prep saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Tyler Bergkoetter, who went 3-for-4 with one RBI.

Holy Ghost Prep now has a losing record of 7-8. As for Gloucester Catholic, they pushed their record up to 13-3 with the win, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Holy Ghost Prep and Gloucester Catholic should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in their respective state rankings. The Firebirds (ranked 84th) will meet Central (ranked 332nd) at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Gloucester Catholic will square off against Williamstown at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank advantage (1 vs. 38). The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Rams 3.7, the Braves 3.4) so any runs scored will be well earned.
