Football Game Preview: Canastota vs. Oneida Express

Canastota will square off against the Oneida Express at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Canastota has four straight wins, Oneida has six straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

If Canastota beats Oneida with 49 points on Friday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two matchups with that exact score. Canastota took their contest on Friday with ease, bagging a 49-13 victory over Adirondack. The result was nothing new for Canastota, who have now won three games by 29 points or more so far this season.

Mason Roberts produced another solid performance rushing for 64 yards and one score on only five carries, while also throwing for 29 yards and one TD.

Roberts was just one part of a punishing run game: Canastota was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 449 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 275 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.

Meanwhile, Friday just wasn't the day for Oneida's offense. They had to suffer through a 58-0 loss at the hands of General Brown. While losing is never fun, the Express can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York football rankings (they are ranked 426th, while the Lions are ranked 66th).

Oneida's defeat dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Canastota, their win bumped their record up to 4-0.

Canastota didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Oneida in their previous meeting back in April of 2021, but they still walked away with a 19-14 victory. Does Canastota have another victory up their sleeve, or will Oneida turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
