Softball Recap: Rancho Verde Drops Highest Score of Season Against Citrus Hill

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Rancho Verde). They put the hurt on the Citrus Hill Hawks with a sharp 21-0 victory on Thursday. Considering the Mustangs have won nine matchups by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Isabelle Sena made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with four runs, four RBI, and one double. Those four runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Leilani Rivas was a standout: she went 3-for-5 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. That stolen base was her first of the season. Liah Navarro was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Rancho Verde always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .561. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Citrus Hill only posted an OBP of .222.

The win (which was Rancho Verde's sixth in a row) raised their record to 12-3. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.7 runs over those games. As for Citrus Hill, their loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 8-6.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Rancho Verde will square off against Rancho Christian at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Mustangs are facing the Eagles at the right time seeing as the Eagles are stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Citrus Hill, they will face off against Lakeside at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
