Baseball Recap: Kankakee Comes Up Short

Kankakee extended their losing streak to six on Monday, dropping their season record down to 3-11 in the process. They came up short against the Rich Township Raptors, falling 18-6. The Kays were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Raptors apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Eli Stipp made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Jay'Den Jones also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

As for Rich Township, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 6-8. The result was nothing new for the Raptors, who have now won six matches by six runs or more so far this season.

On Rich Township's side, they got a great performance from Landon Hughes as he struck out nine batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits. Those nine strikeouts gave Hughes a new career-high.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Brandon Bankhead, who got on base in four of his six plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last six games he's played.

While Kankakee had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
