Softball Recap: Gervais Beats Central Linn for Their Sixth Straight Victory

While Gervais didn't have the best season last year (they finished 9-11), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They put the hurt on the Central Linn Cobras with a sharp 16-5 victory on Friday. The Cougars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matchups by six runs or more this season.

Addy McCargar was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was even better at the plate, scoring four runs and stealing four bases while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Camryn Rutledge, who scored four runs and stole four bases while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 1.4 stolen bases per game.

Gervais always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.

The win (which was Gervais' sixth in a row) raised their record to 6-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.0 runs over those games. As for Central Linn, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 0-6.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Gervais beat the Cobras by a score of 20-5 later that day.
