Softball Recap: Mount Union Snaps Five-Game Streak of Losses on the Road

Mount Union hadn't done well against Glendale recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Trojans came out on top against the Vikings by a score of 9-5. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since May 13, 2023, but that streak is no more.

Payton Williams made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. Williams was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Haley Atherton, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in hits (two). Sydnee Harris also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Mount Union's victory ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-12. As for Glendale, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-10.

Mount Union wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 15-4 loss against Southern Huntingdon County on the 8th. As for Glendale, they have also already played their next match, a 1-0 defeat against Curwensville on the 8th.
